Good morining users… Today, I want to take a second and talk about what to do when you cant get on line.  We had a call yesterday about the century link outage over the weekend.  This one particualar business was still down Tuesday morning.   After a few simple steps they were surfing away and back to work.  Let me share those steps with you.

What to check when you can not get on line.

  1. Unplug your DSL modem or other type of reciever.  This is the box you get from the phone company.
  2. Unplug your Router.  Not all home users have this, but if you do it is a separate box that most people use for wireless access.
  3. Wait 30 seconds and plug your modem back in.
  4. Watch for the modem to sync up with your service provider.  This is usually indicated by a solid green “DSL” light on them modem or some times and “Internet” light
  5. Plug your router back in and allow it to sync with the modem for a minute or so
  6. Try to get on line.

Here are some other tips for DSL customers

  1. Check your filters.  Home users often are required to put a DSL filter on each phone in the house.  If one of them is bad or one is not inplace this can cause your DSL to malfunction.  A common indication of a bad filter is your internet fluctuating or dropping out when you are on the phone or receive a fax
  2. Check your router.  Unplug the modem from the router and plug it strait into your computer.  Reboot both the comptuer and the modem, if you get on the internet the router is bad.  If not, then it is time to call support

NOTE: If you are a DSL customer and you are not getting the DSL light on your modem after a modem restart, you are not receiving DSL signal from the street.  Call your service proiver immidiately to report this.
